The most unique element of spring in this city, is bike fishing. I am sure there is an official term for this, and I have no idea what that term is. Bike fishing is what I call it. It involves dudes (city employees) on barges reaching down into the canals with a big claw thing and pull out fists full of gunk. They are hunting for bikes which have been thrown (or fallen) into the canals. Watching them in action is mesmerizing. You find yourself cheering for them every time they pull up a bike. And you cannot believe how many bikes are down there...

Spring in the City
Our bakfiets is stocked with bubbles, soccer ball and sidewalk chalk. Playdates are sunny. Tulips are popping up all over town and daffodils are in full bloom. Spring snow should be here soon. Hard to believe this is our third spring in Amsterdam. Hands down my favorite season here.
