Lunch Lady Land - hold the ranch

"Would you care for some curried chickpeas or chicken over couscous? How about a whole-breast chicken fillet or a serving of lasagna hand-assembled using locally made marinara sauce and fresh basil?"

"How about a big slice of Hermiston watermelon or a handful of ripe strawberries grown in Forest Grove? Or would you prefer a serving of roasted asparagus and a scoop of black bean and corn salad the lunch lady made fresh this morning, seasoning it with lime juice and fresh cilantro?"

Hooray for Portland Public Schools. Click here to read up on the school lunch revamp.

This part blew my mind: "The biggest single change: Ranch dressing, consumed by the gallon in most cafeterias last year, is gone. Serving real-meat chicken in place of chicken that was shredded, pressed and molded will cost an extra $60,000 -- roughly the same amount the district spent on all that ranch dressing last year. "
