As I mentioned, there were lots of farm animals in the Swiss Alps. There were also lots of cow (and sheep) bells. Each one is unique, they are often proudly displayed. I believe the reason the animals wear the bells is so that the farmer can locate them if they wander off. The chime of bells complement the swoosh of the skis and make a lovely soundtrack as you ski through the villages....
