Then, last weekend his PapaJean and Uncle Sylly came to town to join in for his laser tag birthday party with buddies.

WKF is 9
I may not blog much these days...but my baby had a birthday and it needs to be remembered! On the big day, we celebrated before school.

Snip
This was seriously just a regular saturday, we popped into the neighborhood hair place to get some fresh cuts for the kids. We left feeling as though we had done our part to help keep PDX weird (one kid haircut at a time). So much to love in this crazy city...
Creepy Crocodile
What good is a mommy blog if you can't post videos of your kids doing TOTALLY AMAZING things...esp when it is you and only you that gets to define "TOTALLY AMAZING".
See the creepy crocodile...

The Dutch Way
We feel so grateful to have experienced Dutch parenting first hand. We learned so much from the Dutch ways, and miss being surrounded by their refreshing approach...
This thoughtful essay made me a little homesick for the chaotic, free-for-all play ground scene that I used to call home. Reading it was a great refresher course and a great reminder to chill out...

He Remembers
It is rare that WKF communicates through art, but this piece tells me he remembers Amsterdam. So do I.

New Neighbor
Our newest neighbor is a pug puppy named wiggles. Wiggles is making it a challenge for the kids and I to hold true to our ways (of not liking dogs). He is sweet and soft and tiny.

This Didn't Suck
A few weeks ago my bestie JG and I got away. It wasn't terrible. When we weren't chillin' with a cold drink by the A.R.P., hiking, shopping, or getting our nails did - we were in bed savoring room service and watching oscar nominated movies on demand. She is a mom of 5 and deserved this luxurious getaway. I joined her.
PS - happy belated bday sweet JG.

Remember The Last
Today we moved out of the Mountain House. We have made so many memories here through the years. I cannot count how many times we carried sleeping babies turned little children up this ladder to their loft on Friday nights. Always worth the Friday rally to wake up here on snowy Saturdays. We spent two memorable christmas' here, celebrated a few anniversaries here. We hosted a few fun fondue fetes and lots of unplanned cocoa and sledding parties. Today as I snapped these photos I begged the kids to remember it all - I know I will. Oddly, we hope never to return...because we hope hope hope our new chalet will be ready by the time next season rolls around - fingers crossed. When the new digs are complete, we will just be down the road from this place, so we'll get to smile and wave as we pass her. Her sweet simplicity was such a refreshing reminder that less is more...a theme we hope to remember as we build the new place.

The Ultimate Belly Shot
I adore a good belly shot. This one may be the best I have ever seen. Behold: Annie circa 1976
It is so hard to believe that this photo is nearly 40 years old. Not hard to believe Annie was looking so stylish and perfect-postured. I love this bump and the stud that it became.
Thank you Annie - for bringing O into the world, in style (the only way you roll).
Thank you Sam - for sharing this treasure!

End of an Era and Confession #364
This news bums us out. VQ is our go to. We go for bdays, we go to celebrate BQ marathons (immediately after these photos were taken, we headed to VQ), we go for random date nights, we bring out of towners there. Their patio is a dream. So is their burger. So is their chocolate soufflé.
Confession: If there was a contest to honor the best VQ memory...I would be a contender. The night I snapped this belly selfie, O and I headed to VQ to celebrate my bday. While there, my water broke. You better believe we stayed right there at the table until I finished my chocolate soufflé.

Not Boring
The past few weeks have been super busy. But how boring is it when people tell you they are busy? Let's not talk about that.
Yesterday, our shipment cleared customs and arrived on our doorstep. Major. We are splitting time between the house full of boxes and our temp housing downtown. Grateful to get to do it this way, but eager to settle in. My mantra has been 'move in to move on'...because this transition phase is going on and on and on. I'm eager to just be. How boring is it when people tell you about their move details? Let's not talk (any more) about that.
Well, lets talk a tiny bit more about that. I will feel exponentially more settled once my closet is put together. Call me shallow, or call me a girl who knows WTF she needs to feel settled. Ok, stop calling me things.
Here is something that is not boring. This headline cracked me up. It is so good to be back in Portland, where stuff like this happens. Have you seen the missing tofu? If so, call police!
This business idea is not boring. Ding dong, I sorta want to try it. I actually love shopping myself...but I also love creative business ideas and admire those with the courage to pursue them
Aziz Ansari's new series, Master of None, should be not-boring. I'm excited to check it out next month. Funny about his parents...
My sister alerted me of this not-boring trend. Ummmm...Can.you.even.deal?
I found this impressive nugget in my kids backpack. I'm oddly proud of his honestly. For the record, he can read...he just doesn't make a habit of it.
I was just starting to wrap my head around little big burger, and now Stumptown?! Exciting for these small local brands, and I am optimistic both will scale with soul and make PDX proud.

And finally, ever since learning this trend had a title (the title is normcore), I am so fascinated that something could be so boring that it is not boring. If you are having trouble falling asleep, just use google images to search "normcore".
Thankfully, I recently learned that #normcore is over (amen). Chaos magic is the new jam. And what a perfect way to end a post titled "Not Boring" (amen, again). Go mix your own kool-aid.
