Special

My friends inspire me.

Example: This gorgeous girl...

She just opened an uber hip teeny boutique on Alberta. She is too cool. Her shop is really good, it is full of unique jewelry, funky art, and rad headbands. If you aren't into those things you are probably lame. If you are...go to Special.

PS - there is 10% off all jewelery this weekend to celebrate the grand opening. Go there. Buy stuff.

Special
1805 NE Alberta St.
Portland, OR

Enjoy.

Paparazzi

WKF and I walked out of the house this morning to go for a little hike...and there was a photog right there...we loved it. We felt so Hollywood. Thanks for the hike girls, and for having the camera ready....

C.W.Y.G. II

Welcome to another edition of Celebrate What You Got.

I am in love with this vintage Dansk casserole dish. This belonged to my mom and I was thrilled when it arrived in her suitcase this past summer. I have fond memories of her using it and I love love love to use it myself. I love the color. I love the history. I love it.

Just posting this makes me want to make a casserole...does anyone make casseroles anymore??

Rat Tat Tat Tat

We have been here 3 years. The first year we had a "pet" woodpecker that loved to tap on the metal around the top of the chimney...which then echoed through the house. He always seemed to do it early in the morning, usually on weekends. Sweet.

Last year he never came around.

Well today, he is back. And he brought his great timing with him...he showed up and started tapping right at nap time. Awesome. Rat tat tat tat....so far WKF is snoozing through it.

Celebrate What You Got (C.W.Y.G.)

This recessionista is celebrating the things I have and love, instead of shopping for new things. On that note, here is one thing that hangs on my wall, which I just adore. This is my Pepa's (grandfather on Birdie's side) class picture from elementary school. He was the only boy.

Slumdog

I finally went to see it. Liked it. Didn't love it. It was heavy. I wasn't mentally prepared for the heaviness. I was pretty much waiting for the dance scene throughout the whole movie (which is at the very end, during the credits....).

The 3 things I loved about it:
1. The colors! So bright and fun. Even in the dark slummy scenes, there are such vibrant colors. LOVED that.
2. The dance scene. I want to learn the dance and do it with O in our living room like these two. To be honest, I almost like their version better than the movie version....
3. My date was fab. Thanks for the night out RG.

The thing that shocked me the most:
A couple behind us in the theatre left BEFORE the dance scene. I almost fell off my chair considering that was the part I was waiting for all along....

Mardi Gras

Can you smell the King Cake that I am baking?

Vote for Slash

We all think our own hubby is the hottest. At least I do.

Well, my dear friend and college teammate went the extra mile...she nominated her handsome hubby for the "Hot Husband" contest at Redbook (yes, she really did). Now he is a finalist. We are all laughing (with them, not at them)...and hoping that he wins!

You may recognize him as Slash from this previous Guns N' Roses post. Or, you may not recognize him...since he looks totally different with short hair...

Help her out, vote for Slash!

Spring!

Two good signs that it is spring (almost) in PDX:

1. Fred Meyer is selling tulips and daffodils.

2. Fred Meyer is selling Cadbury Creme Eggs. So good and so gross all at once.

The real sign of spring is always the (March 21st!) opening of the farmers market. Once it opens I spend less time at Fred Meyer and I can get some more natural eggs....but until then, I may indulge in one of these....

Love It

I am so unhip. I have not yet seen Slumdog. I have heard lots about dance scene, can't wait to go see it. In the meantime, I am loving (LOVING) this video:

How adorable is this couple?!?! And girlfriend has a rad blog too. Oh, and apparently a booming design biz.

I like this...

Thanks MWaz.

Comme Des Garcons...

I have received lots of comments about this post. Most were in email, in person, or by phone...perhaps you gals were too shy to post the comments?

Well, anyhow...all the interest told me that others were as fascinated by this concept as I am...which prompted me to do a tad more research. (In case you are curious, I have not done product testing and I don't think that I will.).

Many people talked about how this is more common for women in Europe. In Europe its called the "She Pee" or the p-mate. Funny stuff. Below is a photo of the "She Wee-inal". Yes, its a female urinal. Will this catch on?!?

I have talked to two gals who have friends that "swear by it". One of the gals is a kayaker from the UK, the other a snowboarder from Scandenavia...both claim that it is great for active girls.

Ahhh the Weekend. Is it really over?

Even when it is rainy, it is sunny in Portland. I have never seen more rainbows anywhere...

WKF had a playdate with a gal pal

He also fell in love with his uncle's girlfriend, who was in town for biz and was able to fit in a visit.

Lots of playtime with his papa. He loves to stand up.

Oh how we love that face. Those eyes. That Voodoo Donut Tshirt.

99% of you should skip this post

This video is for Birdie and Bry. JeanO and Annie will probably love it too. It is probably safe to assume that the rest of you (since you are not grandparents to this little prince) will find it incredibly boring (unless you enjoy long videos of 8 month olds eating Cheerios).

So please skip it. And I promise not to load up lots of baby videos on my blog....

Go Girl. Really?

Another thing I spotted over at Blogtown today....the Go Girl. A female urination device.

Can this be for real? Their website looks legit.
Two of my favorite quotes from their website:
Stop taking life sitting down.
You won’t be like a man. You’ll just pee like one.

Informnation

I saw this on Blogtown. Apparently this sign is inside the Portland Building downtown. Awesome.

Too Easy

I could play this game all day long. Although, sometimes it is just too easy...too obvious...you know?

Who would play you?

If they made a movie about your life, what actress would be cast for the leading role? I love that question...I answered it the other day for my friend MW.

P.S. when she is not prego, her waist is as tiny as Audrey's...

P.S again: Audrey's picture came from this lovely blog

Sunset Soup

I am still mourning the end of Domino, but Sunset is my favorite magazine. Their recipes are never (OK, rarely) intimidating. Last night I made Thai Chicken Coconut Soup (from December 2008 issue). This was my third time making it. Always good, always easy. The only adjustment that I make to the recipe is to add a bit more chili paste and I also dump in brown rice to make it a more robust meal.

I am blogging about it as I eat a bowl of it for a late lunch. It is almost better the day after...

Also great is the Pad Thai recipe from Sunset that I posted about a month ago.

Park City Powder Vixens

WKF's cousins live in Park City. This is how kids in Park City play outside. He is going to have his work cut out for him trying to keep up with these gals! Love to Park City from PDX.

Yum?

I'm not sure what to say about this Cheeseburger Dress. I am sure that I needed to post it on my blog. Loving the sesame seeds. Funny.

I saw it here. More info available here.

Le Weekend

We had a great long weekend. I hope you did too.

O and WKF got a lot of quality time over the 3 day weekend. At one point, I walked in on what appeared to be a serious father-son discussion...man to man...

We had some visitors from Tahoe. WKF had a blast hanging with the boys.

And lucky me...VDay dinner with 5 boys, followed by chocolate fondue.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hey RBud, WKF is optimistic that you two can make this long distance thing work out. Thanks for the Valentine.

Happy VDay to all!

Funny Confession XXXIV

As a handful of my girlfriends witnessed last night...whenever I walk by the Betsey Johnson store downtown, I really want to pop in and try something like this on...

This dress is called the "Evening Tea Party Dress". I love that name! I may need to throw an evening tea party so that I can buy it and wear it. Can you lend me $400 (yes, that is what it costs)?

Shelves. Before and After.

I love "Before & After" shots. Don't you? I get so inspired to make changes.

Check out this project at Eddie Ross. Boring bookshelves become a fabulous and fancy butler's pantry. This makes me think I need a butler's pantry...

Update: How adorable is this Eddie Ross guy? I enjoy his blog, and after seeing this photo I decided to email him and invite him for chai tea chez moi if he is ever in Portland.

Let me clarify...

One of my New Year's Resolutions was "get with it, get a Mac, learn how to use it, use it".

Allow me to be more specific. I would like to get a MacBook Air. And I would like to keep it in this leather case made by Shuky which I spied over on Simplesong.

Wishing I Could Sew...

A talented gal took a $3 boxy unflattering thrift store dress and made it into an adorable fitted stylish number. Love it and wish I could sew...

Getting Hitched?

Are you engaged? If so, buy this dress from JCrew and wear it for your big day. Why? Because I LOVE it!

Amen Sista'

I'm considering becoming Catholic. Just so I can look THIS ADORABLE at my baptism. My heart was in Baltimore all weekend.

Happy Birthday To My Blog

Portland Sunshine turns ONE today! Thanks for making time to visit with her from time to time. I am glad you are a part of it.

On this day in 2003...

...we got engaged! It was a sunny day in Stowe, Vermont. We got engaged in the halfpipe.

Bonjour bling!
