Jica-what?
(Pronounced HEE-kah-mah)
Jicama (also known as a Mexican potato) is a large, bulbous root. This juicy tuber has a thick brown skin and a white crunchy flesh. A popular Mexican vegetable, Jicama can weigh anywhere from one to six pounds. Its sweet, nutty flavor is good both raw and cooked. Once cooked, Jicama retains its crisp, water chestnut-type texture and flavor.
Now I know.
I love my Mexican Potato!!!!
Update: spellcheck didn't know about Jicamas either, that made me feel a bit better.

Banana = Boy ?
Anyone that knows O knows that he almost always has one with him. O never boards a plane without a banana tucked away "just in case". He rarely goes to work without one. Often he comes home with one that he picked up somewhere throughout the day.
Despite this habit of his, I am not certain that he actually intakes too many either. Most often I find them (rotten) in his gym bag, work bag, or car. They are never hard to find...I know the scent well, I have actually grown to love it (that is how much I love him).
Perhaps I have inhaled enough banana scent through the years to have influenced the gender of BabyF? The study did not mention this possibility, but I think that I kind of believe.
Good work O, you know I wanted a boy.

Thoughts of Boston
This afternoon I took a trip down memory lane and pulled together some pix from our old pad. 232, we miss (all 600 fabulous square feet of) you!

Cover Girl
If you are in Boston or near Boston - go to her store. If you are not, plan a trip to Boston so you can go to her store.
The Hunt
Over 50 volunteers, approximately 25,000 butts, and the weather cooperated. Here is an audio recap from the radio this morning. Look out city council, we'll be there to talk butts on 4/30!

Boston Eve
They say that in distance running women peak in their mid to late 30s, so I am still very optimistic that my day will come. Plus, MamaK manages to improve her marathon time by 10+ minutes with each race, and she is over 60 - lets hope I have her good marathon genes!!!
We lived in Boston many years, and I often would walk to work. The finish line is always painted on Boylston, and stays year round. Much like my Boston motivation/ambition, it fades, but it is always there, and it will probably never go away. Every day as I walked to work I would scoot around it, never crossing the line...thinking...someday I will cross this line, someday I WILL CROSS THIS STUPID ANNOYING FANTASTIC LINE....I still believe...!!!!!!!!!!!
To my friends in Bean Town...get ready, because one of these years I'll be there....and I'll need you on Boylston (and on Heartbreak Hill)!

Another Reason to Love This City
This blog post explains that the "nice" of PDX it deeper than the "hello's" and eye contact that local citizens give to each other as they pass by....
Did you know that Oregon has more nonprofits per capita than any other state in the union and the bulk of those are located in Portland?
As you'll read in that blog the non-profit community is collaborating in innovative ways...this is inspiring. Go Carole Zoom.
I don't know her, but she sure sounds like an interesting person! I hope she and I cross paths...Portland is so small, we probably will. Carole, I look forward to meeting you!
Love This Dress
I would marry O all over again any day. I would keep most things the same. But if we did it again I may want to wear this dress because it is AMAZING.
Better to day dream of changing up the dress, than the man, right? O, you are the only one for me...even though you never read this silly blog o mine.
I found this dress here, via sk*rt.

A Letter to my New Bathrooms
When will you be finished? We are ready to move back into the house now. You are behind schedule. Please hurry up and be done. I am trying to be patient, but it is harder every day. I trust that you will be worth the wait.
Do it for baby.
Sincerely,
The (patient and pregnant)Woman of the House

Come home
Can't wait to see you (tomorrow!), I miss you. HammyT misses you.
Babymoon!
Per wikipedia - A babymoon is a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby. Babymoons are usually take place at a resort that offers appropriate services like prenatal massage. The term babymoon comes from the more traditional term honeymoon, which is a vacation taken by a newlywed couple after their wedding ceremony.
Per moi - bring it on!
BFF in PDX

Weekend a Portland Avec Mes Besties
One "special" treat...we hit Voodoo late night on Saturday. Voodoo (late on Saturday) is no place for a pregnant chick, so this will not be a regular thing...but it sure was fun! I am ashamed to say that I have lived here over 2 years and this was my first visit to Voodoo, it will not be my last.
For the non-pdx-ers who read this (most of you), Voodoo Doughnut is a one of a kind doughnut experience. Well, at least I think it is one of a kind...I don't know of any other Doughnut joint that is open 24hours a day, where you can get married, buy undies, buy baby clothes, take Swahili lessons, take the tex-ass challenge (not sure what that is), get a "Nyquil Glazed and Pepto Bismal" doughnut, order from the vegan menu, people watch, or just grab a doughnut (or six) with 2 of your best girls latenight. The place is tiny too...they sure pack a lot of quirky into a small space!
The founders, "Cat Daddy" and Tres, claim (in their motto) that "The Magic is in the Hole". I agree there is some magic at this place....I think it is a must do for anyone visiting this magical city.

Date Night
We are going to see Urban Bush Women/ Campagnie Jant Bi - "An Extraordinary Collaboration between Seven Powerful Women from Brooklyn and Seven Dynamic Men from Senegal". Sounds cool to me.
The show is part of the White Bird dance series. Earlier this year I was lucky enough to meet the founders of White Bird, Paul King and Walter Jaffe (pictured below with Barney - their White Bird) after a speaking engagement that they did.
These two were really cool - a very inspiring duo...it is amazing what they have done with White Bird over the past 10 years. They are from NYC, but they are tres tres Portland...when I emailed them to thank them for speaking, they replied back immediately inviting me to be their guest at a show! Tonight is the night I picked - so excited it is finally here. I know it will be great!

Fast Food Done Right
Burgerville is a local chain (there are 39 in Oregon and Washington). Burgers are made with love from pastured vegetarian-fed and antibiotic-free beef. The menu changes with the seasons (get your strawberry milkshakes now...they are not always available)!. There is hazelnut milkshake season, walla walla onion ring season, sweet potato fry season, yukon gold french fry season, blackberry milkshake season, strawberry milkshake season....
Burgerville purchases wind power credits equal to 100 percent of their electricity use, recycles used canola oil into biodiesel, and offers its hourly employees an affordable $15-a-month health-care plan. They are working towards an ambitious goal to be recycling and/or composting 85% of all waste by 2008. Burgerville was the first restaurant to use eggs from cage free chickens.
Their mission statement - "Serve with Love". Their motto - "Fresh. Local. Sustainable."
Since transforming their biz plan to align all parts of the biz to their green and sustainable values they have experienced double-digit same store sales increases in 2006 and 2007. Seems like sustainably is good business.None of these impressive Burgerville factoids would matter if their food was not amazing. Go to Burgerville. You will not be disappointed.
I hear their salads, salmon, and veggie burgers are all fab....but I can't imagine getting anything other than the Tilamook Cheese Burger.
