I "spotted" this at Zupans of all places. Yuck.
Apparently it's a British thing. Dinah, are you out there? Please comment and explain this to me.
I would think that in order for this product to be a success in the US they would do a name change...for in America I don't know of anyone that would want to eat something with this label on it...
Has anyone else ever noticed this? Has anyone tried it?
MF - do you think this is gluten free?
Update: as I wait for Dinah to chime in...MF has provided me with this informational link. How can one not giggle at the nicknames?? Merci Mimi.

oh yeah, seen it a bunch. usually in the Brit section next to the PG Tips. Def not gluten free...
Hi there! It's taken me some time, but here I am.
Yes, it exists.
Yes, the name has exactly the same connotations this side of the Ocean, and is usually accompanied by sounds of sniggering and 'OOOH, ERRRR!'
My Dad always moans about my Mum never making him steamed puddings - there are a variety, including chocolate sponge and golden syrup sponge and jam sponge.... all deeee-licious and out of calorie control and all to be served up as comfort food with custard on a winter day. They also feature widely in 'School Dinners' - what you get given mid-day in school from 5-18 years... remembered with affection and disgust in equal measure. The more refined establishments call it 'dried fruit sponge', but we're CLEARLY not fooled by that!! Call a Dick a Dick for goodness sake!!
It's been a theme of my parents' marriage, a wailing of 'she never makes me Spotted Dick!. Not to be confused with 'She never makes my dick spotted.' which is another problem altogether and should be said without wailing.... I actually found a birthday card with the recipe on the front in the Bargain Box (for 50p)last year in about Feb, and kept hold of it until Dad's birthday in December. I'm such a dedicated daughter. (or one who comes from a family who REALLY know how to overplay a joke!!).
And talking of dicks... in a completely random swerve into a (slightly - kind of...) related subject... How funny is this? The Lifeguard at the pool this morning decided to share with me the fact that he wasn't feeling great and hadn't been in work for a couple of days because he'd been in hospital being circumcised. Apparently I needed to know that.
Actually I didn't!!
Going now.
Bonne journee a tous!
Dinah
