Dutch Resistance Museum

Only recently did I realize this museum existed.  I carved out time today to wonder through.  Wow.  I would push this to the top of the must see museum list for any visitor to Amsterdam.  The displays were so thoughtful and beautiful...the stories so real.

Today was opening day for the Junior Museum, within the museum, which beautifully tells the story of 4 people who experienced WWII as kids and lived to share their story.  The interactive displays and interior recreations were simply amazing.  You enter the Junior Museum through a time machine, and from there you wonder into the lives of these young people.

Here are recent photos of Henk, Nelly, Eva and Jan - the four kids featured in the Junior Museum.

Today was awesome, a good reminder for me that it always feels good to make time to be a tourist here.  It is so easy to get wrapped up in my day to day life, losing site of the rich history, culture, amazingness which is all right outside my door!  We are prepping for a flood of visitors, no doubt they'll each remind me to slow down and be a tourist!

Two Less Excuses

I'd say my appetite for running is way above average. Even with that love of running I am quick with excuses like "it's too rainy" or "it's too dark". My new waterproof über reflective jacket and kicks are going to force me to be more creative if I try to bail on a run. Thanks love (I think).

Tis the season for wet, dark, cold runs. Bring it.

CX

We may live in a new country, but there are some seasonal traditions that we are keeping alive.   Fall is here, and so it was time to figure out the cyclocross scene.  It wasn't too hard to find a race near by, so we loaded up the bikes and went for it.

The race was organized by a bike club about 45 minutes outside of Amsterdam.  They had a little clubhouse with a bar, showers, etc.  It was super cute.
There was even a painting of cyclocrossers on the wall of the clubhouse.

Unfortunately, there was no kiddiecross race...but the kids were still fired up to ride their bikes around and cheer for their papa.

O rocked it.  Holding one's own in a field packed with dutch cyclocrossers (who are part of a cyclocross club!) is no small feat.  He finished strong and had fun.

We were all pretty fired up to see a hill.  Even a hill as small as this one.  This country is so flat.

Heineken

Considering we live on the same block as the Heineken corporate offices, and in the shadows of their brewery, I look very forward to seeing this movie when it comes out.

It was just announced that it will star Anthony Hopkins.

Done

Here is my big sis, post race. She ran her plan and finished with a smile. Go Lo Go! Woohoo.

Chicagooooo Lo

In 4 short hours my crazy sister will take off for a quick little 26.2 mile stride through the windy city.  Run like the wind sister!  Good luck!

Yes, she did do it last year as well.  I know, totally crazy.

Pink Run

It felt like I was wearing rose colored glasses on my morning run yesterday.  From the sky, to the yarn bomb, to the cars, to the bikes...everything seemed to be shades of pink.   A lovely way to start the day.

Street Books

Whenever I spy street libraries around town I am reminded that PDX and Amsterdam are not all that different.  Love.

BAMBs

Here are a few snaps of some badass mother bikers (BAMBs) around town
