Good Morning Portland!

JLP Day Tomorrow

Portland City Council has declared October 15 to be Junior League of Portland Day.  This is so rad.

The Junior League of Portland, OR (founded in 1910), is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

We are 100 years old this year!!!!!!!!!

If you have ever considered joining, this is the year to do it.  VT is the pres, and this gal has it going on.  I am so proud of her...being the president of this group is a HUGE deal and she handles it with such poise and style.
I am proud to be her friend and to be affiliated with this organization.  Happy 100!  VT, keep up the great work girlfriend.

Guest Post!

Introducing Bella my guest blogger and her man Marty!
Best trip ever! So if you are looking for an amazing trip to take with a significant other or a close friend...Portland is the way to go! My bf and I took our first trip to visit SKF, her fam, and to check out the great state of Oregon! There were so many cool places to visit, so many things to do! This is definitely NOT the trip to waste lounging around at the beach. Certainly you can go visit the beach, but stick around just long enough to enjoy the beautiful scenery, take pictures and get out to the snow! Yes, that's right, you can make sandcastles and snow angels all in less than 2 hours!

We flew in early, rented a cool Camaro, drove to the F residence, said hello, got settled into the tree house and went exploring! Went to a great little restaurant called Kenny and Zuke's and had a fantastic lunch! On a random Sunday afternoon the line was out the door! Then we explored downtown Portland. Stopped in for a beer at a local brewery. That's the thing about Oregon, so many local breweries! Great if you like to try new flavors.

I cannot remember the order of everything now, but here are some of the things we did in just 5 days!
  • Play time with W and P
  • Catching up with S and O
  • Picking berries at the F residence they were delicious and everywhere! Marty was obsessed

  • Japanese Gardens
  • Powell's bookstore amazing...spent 2 hours looking at books that are out of print
  • Running hills and trails Sara made me
  • Mt. Hood
  • Beach
  • wineries
  • orchards - Packers best peaches, homemade pies and cookies ever!
  • Forks - all of the young girls and I were there to take pics of the Forks sign...didn't see Bella anywhere, but according to SKF, I am the original Bella anyway.
  • Nike campus and store
  • coast
  • Seattle
  • Fish Market
  • 1st Starbucks ever
  • ferry ride great scenery!
  • Farmer's market great fruit, jams, everything!
  • Saturday market - street dancers, great jewelry
  • cool restaurants everywhere
  • The Matador
  • NE 23rd great shopping, restaurants, atmosphere
  • best burger ever at Laurelhurst Market
  • Voodoo Donuts was featured on Man vs. Food
  • Ruby beach at sunset
  • Rain Forest
We had the best trip, and it was so great to see best friends too! I would love to share more details, but was warned that I would have to create my own blog!

Keeping Portland Weird

I have no idea what I will be doing the weekend of 10/22...but now I know what I won't be doing...

Yikes.  Just sayin'.
Update: To all my tatted friends...you know I love you, please don't get all sensitive.  I love your ink and I love you.  I'm not a tat hater, I just know that I won't be at this expo.  xo

Photo du Jour

Who needs an iPod when your sweet boy brings his guitar along for a run in the stroller?

This is the view I have from behind the stroller. So sweet!

Tooth Fairy Pillows

I think I found a great next project for Birdie

Tooth Fairy pillows.   Sweet, aren't they?

Colorful Inspiration

Thank you D*S for this post about Amie Corley.  I dig her style and these photos are so alive and fun.  A wonderful reminder that more is more when it is done right.  Je l'adore!

Mammalingo

This site is good. Here are some of my favorites:

Crytique: A useless critique from a stranger when your baby is crying.

Snaccupy: To keep a child busy, quiet and tantrum free by giving him snacks when you're on the go.

Dindow: The approximately 3-minute window a working parent has between bringing the kids home and feeding them dinner.

Ghost Write: To write a thank-you note on behalf of a child in the voice of the child, such as, “I love my new Exersaucer so much, Grandma! And Mommy loves it too because now she can shower! Love, Crayston,”
Designated Clipper: The parent in the household who routinely trims an infant or child’s nails.

Notahat: Meaning not to be placed on the head.

Independastrophe: The resulting disarray, chaos, or carnage left in the wake of a toddler trying to do something “all by myself,” such as pouring juice, plunging toilets and cutting hair.

Runaway Bride

I love to run.  But these two really LOVE to run...and run to love.  They got hitched mid marathon on Sunday. Their story and a few other moving stories were included in this great write up...
I was one of 15,000 runners....wow.  I love being a part of things.
